New CPU cooler

Thread Starter
So I got a new CPU Cooler (check specs) and I am very happy with the temps @ stock. 18-20 on idle, getting 30-35 during gaming, and 40-45 running Prime95. I want to try overclocking, where do I start?

Start by reading a guide like this one

EDIT: Prime95 passed with no errors. Testing it again.
Ok thanks, I read it and I successfully booted up @ 3.6GHz, testing it with Prime95 right now... Tell me if everything looks alright here:

Have you tried Linx, I dont trust Prime 95 100%, I was having a problem, I was getting BSODs frequently, I stress tested with Orthos, after 20hrs to me everything was good, but kept getting BSODs when I tried with Linx after 10mins, a BSOD, adjusted some settings, test with Linx, 100 passes with no problems, and no more BSODs

not too bad for a first time overclock. Just keep adjusting settings to get her stable and you will be good.

also I agree totally with alvla2 about testing with more then one program. My overclock was 12hours stable on both prime and LinX, but crashes after about an hour of folding. so just test with different programs.

thats not fair you never tested with linx and got an error you just assume the 10 minutes in with the bsod was a failure. I have not had a problem with prime like that on the many machines i have test HOWEVER it's not bad idea to use different testing methods how ever i test at least 16 hours on prime usually 16 to 20 hours. I have failures not show up till 11 hours.
so when you test for just 12 hours your kinda asking for it, 16 or more!!!!!

It happened to me on 2 different rigs, unstable clocks, idk why was getting stable with Orthos and not with Linx
