I have a few questions about monitors.

Thread Starter
So I'm building my first comp and my video card has a DVI and an HDMI port. as i was browsing monitors i found a few good ones but they only have a VGI port. I know they make converters but I was wondering if by doing that it'll reduce the image quality.

Also how much better is 100,000,000:1 compared to 12,000,000:1 when it comes to contrast ratios? Will I even notice it?

Contrast ratio should be the last of your concern since manufacturers usually overblow the specs, and no you will not notice it.

VGA is inferior to DVI/HDMI, but the adapters will not decrease VGA quality.

VGA is fine up to 1080p resolutions, and sometimes more given the right hardware and cabling. Good quality adapters will not reduce quality, poor ones will at high resolutions, this is an analogue signal remember.
And ignore the claimed contrast ratios plastered over the box/ad they're fabricated and pointless.

VGA is fine up to 2304x1440 @ 85hz and the like

VGA as a cable is just as good as DVI and HDMI over short distances. However, many LCD monitors have poor implementation of VGA resulting in a poorer image. If the only port on the monitor is VGA, it should be good however.
