It took a lot of force to get the side panel back on but evenuatlly I got it screwed in, I just hope I never have to take it off

You could strip off the sleeving and heat shrink from the 24-pin cable. That would allow you to have the wires lay flatter instead of being wrapped in a tight bunch that can't be compressed.
