Thuban still worth it?

Thread Starter
I would like my next update to be an AMD hexacore processor but with Buldozer coming out soon and Ivy Bridge a bit later I would like to know if it is still worth it to buy a 1090T. Note that I would be getting this upgrade in July.
No, not if you're building an entirely new rig.

Thuban was never worth it

No, with SB out and it whooping the Thuban in pretty much every benchmark (not by a terribly large amount but still beating it) it's not worth it especially considering an SB setup would be at a similar price point.

If I were you I'd wait for Bulldozer and the benchmarks for it to come out and buy accordingly. I'm predicting it to be competitive against SB (both speed wise and economically). I'm not buying BD though since I have a good enough system to placate me for now. I might pickup a Llano to use as lanning rig though.

A bit off topic but does anyone know if the Llano will allow for IGP overclocking? I want to make a "shuttlePC/slimPC" lanning rig.

Bulldozer should be out by then so definitely not a 1090T.

This. Thuban is nice for compiling programs, rendering, video encoding, etc. Otherwise, you get similar or better performance in most apps with a higher clocked Deneb which costs more than $50 cheaper.

By the time most apps can take advantage of 6 cores, we'd have quads selling for ~$100 with similar multi-threaded performance while having much faster per core performance.

From your sig rig it looks like your gonna need a new motherboard and ram with whatever cpu you go with, so i think you got a couple choices, you can stay back a generation in cpu's the i7 sandy instead of the ivy, or the 1090 or 955 BE or get BullDozer or IVY.......any of these are a good choice and they will all play games with the settings mostly on high. .......as i look at the sig rig of yours, i would get a the biggest video card i could afford (ati) my personal choice, then wait and get new motherboard and bulldozer an ram .....you got a good psu !

if i absolutely couldnt wait...... Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40 GHz / BIOSTAR TP67B+ /
xfx Radeon HD 6950..........then thats what i would do rite now if i couldnt wait .

Good Luck ....i know im waitin for Bulldozer !
