SR2 E5645 x 2 VS. 2600k

So before i get the whole apple and oranges thing i understand how different these systems are. Trust me i will be able to fully use the sr2. I figure if i am lucky i can get the sr2 to 4 ghz and the 2600k to 5 ghz and at these stats the sr2 is going to have a ton more horsepower however, my question however is going to be how this translates to games. For the most part i think the 2600k will were the crown in most games however if it is not that major of a fps difference the extra power from the sr2 would be well worth it. However since i am a gamer deep down if the gaming difference is to great i would succumb to that.
Thoughts?

The 2600k will beat it in most games as it is better thread for thread and games don't utilize too many cores nowadays. The difference between the two is minimal in games.

You would see a difference if the game was heavily multithreaded otherwise not.

There are no heavily multithreaded games. There are still quite a few games that use only 1 core, most of them 2, and then there's gta iv, bc2 & co. who use 4. But that's it, no more cores. (correct me if i'm wrong)

OP, you want a SR2 for gaming (only) ?

The SR-2 is going to run way better. The 5645 will smash the 2600k, and will run so much better in the future(think well over 5 years pretty much).

I dont really care about benches.
And to me i would think the 2600k would outrun the 5645 in games based on frequency.

Basically:

Normal games that use 4 cores: 2600k > SR2 Rig

Other games that use all cores/Multi threaded things: SR2 Rig > 2600k. The 2600k has no chance against multi threaded things.

No game is going to get better fps with the sr2 over the 2600k.Or even a 2500k.Your gpu will decide.

As of right now 1366 is slower, but fast enough in gaming.

SB will give you better performance in games, but the difference won't be playable vs unplayable (same can be said of AMD vs Intel for that matter).

I would go for the SR-2 because if you can actually use all that power and make money from it than it would be worth it. I'm not really sure what that would be, but thats besides the point.

The only thing I would question is if the build will be worth the price (and it will be high) with the performance of a i7-2600k or i5-2500k so high its hard to imagine needed anymore power. Add to that bulldozer is soon to be released, as well as high end SB, with 2011 socket and perhaps an SR-3 with 8 core SB chips for probably about the same you'll be spending now. However we both know your system would get destroyed by the SB setup.

So the questions you need to figure out the answer to is: Is it worth it? Why not wait and see?

A SR-2 with two 6 cores would beat a 2600k, and would even in games most likely. Get the SR-2, I would.
