upgrade computer for friends parents

Friend wants me to update his parents home PC, his dad is buying a new one so his mom gets this one.

AMD Athlon 64 3200 skt 754
MSI K8N Neo FSR
1gb DDR400 Corsair XMS
Geforce 6600GT
12x DVD-RW
Antec 300 Case

now she works with photoshop but doesnt game (the 6600GT was his idea because he used there PC in highschool), and the Antec 300 was bought last year after his dad had accidenty kicked the window out of the old case lol.

What im thinking (500 dollar budget)

Core i3 2500t
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116394

ASUS H67 Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131712

G.Skill 8gb DDR3 1333 2x4gb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231424

Antec Earthwatts 500
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371035

Going for 8gb because they dont upgrade often his dad was happy using this PC till about July of last year, his mom enjoyed it also but now it has leaking caps so I want it to be something that will last. And given that it was built in 2003 they dont upgrade often as you can tell. How does this look for a machine that can last for basic photoshop, email, facebook, youtube, that will more than likly have to last 7 years inside there 500 dollar budget?

I think if it lasts 7 years they'll be kicking it to bits by that point.

Looks good for a family computer so far. Are you sticking with the old video card?

One thing I should ask: How avid a photoshop user is the mother? If it's just minor color corrections or similar, then 8GB is overkill. You really only need more than 4 when you're working with butt-tons of layers and a long history list.

they are both her and her husband taking class, they just retired and want a hobby lol. Video card im going to use the one built into the i3 since the H67 supports using the onboard VGA, also this Athlon 64 runs windows 7 64bit and photoshop, they dont replace computers but they always buy the newest windows and the newest programs they are curious about consider it future proofing

As much as SB's integrated graphics has been touted as decent, Photoshop doesn't like onboard graphics.

well the 6600GT is AGP lol, what would you suggest for basic computer usage

Really, photoshop needs a dedicated video adaptor. Pretty much anything will do; a friend of mine does a lot of picture editing with just an 8400GS. You don't need to spend more than $40.

but why does it need a dedicated GPU, maybe im out of touch, but i dont remember it being heavy on the GPU when i used it in 2008, just heavy on the CPU

I think intel's IGP beats out a 8400GS.

Yea, but it still needs a GPU to really work. Why dont you pick up a 5670 or 6670. I have one in my system and it performs great for the money.
