Short Circuit - ASRock P67 Extreme4 (bent pin)

Thread Starter
Hi there,

Was just having my new Sandy Bridge set up by my friend, and after putting everything together, the motherboard wouldn't post, and was reading a 2E error on the debugging LED.

While trying to figure out in the manual what the code meant, the motherboard caught flame for a second. He immediately powered it down, and advised that I return it to the retailer as having a faulty circuit.

When I got it to the retailer, they inspected it, and said there was a couple bent pins, and wouldn't exchange it.

Is it possible to repair, or will ASRock RMA it? (their online support is horrible)

Thanks in advance!

Do you think it's possible to repair the pins, or would the board already be fried?

Well the fact that you saw flame more than likely means the CPU and the motherboard are dead, even if you fix the pins. Plus, if any of those pins had anything to do with the memory controller, your memory could also be dead.

No motherboard companies are going to warrant physical damage like that

test the cpu on another board if it works, try fixing the pins. 2 days ago a client gave me his computer to fix "LGA 775" it had like 7 bent pins. i used a a sharp pin and a magnifier to fix the bent pins and "MAGICALLY" the computer posted. so i would say give it a shot.

although the flame does mean something really is fried but.. what the hell, just try.

Edit: fix the pins and rma it
