So, noticing a bit of choppy game play in NFS: MW, even when you have 1GB or more (this tweak will work even if you have less) of RAM? Wondered why? Well, in short, it is because Need For Speed: Most Wanted is only set to use around 350MB of RAM. This can be changed though, to use whatever value you want.
To edit the amout of RAM used, to into the registry. To do that, go to start, run, and type regedit and press enter. In there, look for:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\EA GAMES\\Need for Speed Most Wanted\\]
Once there, take a look for "CacheSize". This determines how much RAM is being used. Like I stated earlier, it usualy is around 350MB. The value in the box will be something like "2969567232", which is in bits. That number is what is used on my computer for the game. That translates to 354MB.
If you want to see what your value translates to, divide the number if what it says in the value, divide that number by 8388608. You do this because since we all (should) know, that since 8 bits is equal to 1 byte, and 1024 bytes = 1KB, and 1024KB = 1MB. Or, in other words, 8x1024x1024. I set this value to use 850MB of RAM (7130316800 bits) since I have 1GB. I suggest using the following depending on the amout of RAM you have.
512MB -> Default
768MB -> 550MB
1024MB -> 850MB
1.5GB -> 1GB
2GB -> 1.2GB
The reason why I don't suggest much more from 1.5GB to 2GB is because the game probably won't utilize that much RAM anyway, and you have you keep in mind you have to still leave some RAM for the programs in the background too.
Have fun. Easy mod to do, and I noticed very little, if any choppyness after this.
