I feel as though what I said was legitimate because either way you have to hold the device yourself, so changing the distance at which you are viewing it does not have a negative impact on the experience. Where as sitting and viewing a fixed screen requires a you to position your entire body relative to it to alter the viewing distance, and this is generally inhibited by the layout of the room in which you are viewing said fixed source.

But you already knew this yessir.gif

I found a shark's tooth once, but it wasn't any where near as awesome as those!

I was one of the people that thought tablets were absolutely retarded and thought there would be no use for it.

That was until I was without my computer for 2 weeks.

After using my dad's laptop to search the internet I realized how much easier it was to surf the web without having to stay stationary. I could lay on my bed, go in the living room, or anywhere else in the house. Then just like a light switch, an idea flicked on inside of my head. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have a tablet after all?

I'm only using the laptop for basic tasks like searching the internet and I'm tired of sitting on my fat ass just to browse the web. For games I use my ps3 or computer but other than that I don't really need to sit at my computer. I mean I could really just use my sprint evo for mobile web browsing but the smaller screen discourages me.

I guess it came down to a few basic things for me:

-Being able to have a decent mobile web browsing experience without lugging around a laptop / power supply. I do a lot of buying and selling so I'm always constantly keeping for sale tabs open and constantly refreshing those pages.

-The ability to use it wherever I want instead of just being at my computer desk.

I just fixed my computer and I'm already spending more time at my computer desk than I have in the last 2 weeks. I just know for a fact that I'll be more mobile when I get one which will lead me to live a healthier and happier lifestyle.

DING DING DING! We have a Winner! While this could still be done more easily with a smart phone it is at least a legitimate reason not to use a netbook.

+Rep for keeping active and trying to stay healthy!

I understand that they have their uses for some people but I just don't see how the cost is justified.

I mean $400 for basically a larger version of your smartphone with the actual "phone" functions taken away (on most tablet models anyway)

People say they'd use a tablet over a smartphone because a smartphones screen is too small.

Well riddle me this.....

The OS on Apple/Android tablets is basically the same as their smartphone equivalent. Smartphones already have an AV output as well as a mini-usb connection.

Why don't they just make a portable plug-in touchscreen using these connections with a small dock for my smartphone on one end so it's hidden away nicely?

That seems like a MUCH cheaper alternative and you also wouldn't need to transfer data between it and the phone because it's basically just your phone showing up on a larger display.

The end result would basically be the same as a tablet.

Not only that but with the space saved by having all the major components being inside in the phone on one side of the display you could have room for a 2.5" HDD or SSD, which you can swap out, that you can use for storing your media rather then the measly 32/64GB you'd get in most full tablets.
