Can I improve my cooling somehow? Silver arrow

Thread Starter
I'm currently unable to go over 4.7GHz since I need over 1.41V and my temps hit 71-72(max) in prime95 during a 4hr test.

Currently I am using the stock fans for my hs and my case. Im thinking about adding an extra 240mm to the top and a 120mm in the fan "thingy" that comes with the haf x that covers the video card.

Are these temps common, or am I doing something wrong? I reseated 3 times and this is the best temp I have gotten.

Thanks.

is your cooling streamlined, as in, is the heat flowing in one direction?

well, 4.7 is a very good overclock, and may be the limit of your card under the current cooler. i think the only way to get a higher clock would be watercooling, or an h50 or h70

Most of this is right, if you jump to H50/70 your temps will go higher. Silver Arrow beats any hybrid water system. but I think's the OP has made it to full blow water loop territory with a 4.7 OC or swap out the fans on the silver arrow for some beefy fans(make's more noise..I would go for full water loop in your shoes)

71-72c are nice temps for 1.41v. 4.7 is a good OC for SB as well. Not everyone hits 5.0. If you can run at that setting and max out around 72C you have a good 24/7 setup there. Plus you are on stock fans as well? Your fine.

Edit: If you take above advice and throw an H50 or H70 on there you would see temps around 80C.

Thanks for all the replies,

wish I would have read them before now though since I turned my stable 4.7 into an unstable 4.7...

Guess I can look at water sometime in the future for a possible upgrade.

Right now, there is nothing better than sliver arrow or D-14 UNLESS you go full blown water loop with all the fixins I have seen lower temps on my S/A by using ICDiamond TIM, and sticking a 120*38mm san ace 1011. My temps where very nice at 1.550Vcore(max safe volts) and 4.0Ghz with plenty of room heatwise.
durring tests with the above set up, max temp on IBT was 45-46c mind you I only use ONE fan. With a second fan they go even lower by a few c

Not worth the money.

u can go up to 80 degrees and it's not like youre using your comp to only run prime. not a lot of applications stress the cpu that hard, so in real life, its not likely youll see 7x degrees

Its not , silver arrow is a good cooler but id rather a h70 .

just cos one person thinks so , does not mean its true .. with a h70 and some good push pull fans i can see you getting 5ghz quite easily .
