Arcade style racing game?

Thread Starter
I have been playing a lot of NFS shift and while I like the game, buddies of mine that come over and want to try out the eyefinity+wheel/pedal combo have an issue with it, the problem being the learning curve. Someone cant just sit down and have fun because they end up all over the track and in the dirt. I am looking for something more arcade. Something anyone can sit down and play, but still be a good enough game that you can maintain enjoyment/get better.

Criteria
1) I hate games where you have to chase down your races, drive to the paint shop etc, the whole free roam thing is good in some games, but I dont particularly like it in the racing genre

2) Must have in car/bumper cam, i hate racing 3rd person

3) would like it to have some level of customization for the cars

4) I cant feel like I am playing cruisin USA, where it doesnt even feel like you are driving the car and your only control is being able to turn the car 45° in either direction

*edit*

5) must be eyefinity and wheel/pedal compatible

Help me find a game please, any hep will be rewarded with gratitude and an unfulfillable promise of riches and happiness in the afterlife.

It's a long shot (as i have never played it) but i've heard the Burnout series are a decent arcade racer.

I loved the old burnouts, but the last one I played it looks like they switched to the free roam format and havent tried any new one's since then

Maybe DiRT 2?

If you go too arcade then there is little point in using a wheel too, so things like Burnout and NFS:HP are pretty pointless.

I'd stick with Shift/Shift 2 as its already an arcade racer with a few hints towards being a sim. Just put some of the drivers aids on, give them a simple track and an easy car to drive. Does pretty much everything you want.

It would be more for the party type atmosphere, people sitting around drinking beer, I have tried to get my buddies to be able to play it, but only one of them is a "gamer" so to speak, that wants to put any effort into learning how to do it. The rest just get frustrated, why do you say burnout is pointless.

I tried dirt 2, I apparently am no good at sliding vehicles, I just couldnt do it.

Just to point it out before someone else does, I am pretty terrible at driving games. In shift the best I can do is win races with the other drives set to easy and the "steering" set to expert (no brake or steering assists but with traction control etc)

NFS Pro Street? It has the whole touring aspect of Shift (which I just bought and love, since GT5 isn't for PC...) but has a much more arcade feel to it. The arcade-ness is not as pronounced as with other games, but I definitely feel it's a lot easier than Shift but hard enough so it's fun and doesn't feel like your car is being led on a rail.

Grid is like something in between arcade and sim
I cant get my wheel to work though so you have to research on that.
NFS shift supports a lot of wheels but grid wont even detect mine.

I will have to check that out, thanks!

I guess thats two more criteria, I hadnt thought about, must support eyefinity, must support wheel's. Thanks!

Oh, nvm on Pro Street then. Doesn't play well with Eyefinity

In fairness to your friends I play racing sims, and I sucked at NFS Shift, I absolutely hate that game, and Grid isn't far behind. F1 2010 is pretty good, as is Dirt 2. NFS Hot Pursuit I have heard is good but haven't tried it myself.
