Asus Rampage iii Formula with OCZ Vertex 3

Thread Starter
I've been upgrading my system over the last few months here and there and now I've approached my last bottleneck. My HDD's.

I'm looking at the Vertex 3 120GB.
The read/write times as I'm sure most of you are aware are as follows,

Sequential Access - Read
up to 550 MB/s
Sequential Access - Write
up to 500 MB/s

Which brings my question, is my onboard sata controller good enough to handle these types of speeds? Or will I be spending 300$ on hardware I'd be limited by? I'm using the Marvell 9128 driver currently.

So long story short, if it does not support these read/write times am I looking at a new motherboard? Or am I just looking at a sata controller?

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

your sequential speed is capped around 400mb, 4k wise i'm pretty sure you're safe there. i'm not sure if the 9128 has trim, but pretty confident that it doesn't. currently all x58 are using marvell controllers, so unless you upgrade to sandybridge, you're stuck with the cap. but it's nothing too significant anyway. if you're worried about the cap that much, get a c300 128gb, they go for 200 on amazon now.
