Wireless router rage/access point experience?

Thread Starter
We've got 3 floors here. So, in our house the wireless router is in the office on the bottom floor. This is where it will stay so there's no option to move it to the main floor.

Right now I believe it's a Linksys AE1000 router. My computer, Xbox, etc, etc are on the top floor. Where my computer is is fine for the range but for my Xbox it's fair and in my room it's non-existent.

My question first is without buying a new router, do those Access Point routers work well? I was looking into putting one on the middle floor so that it will access the wireless router on the bottom floor and broadcast it to the rest of the house so the signal would be better. OR would buying a Linksys E3200/E4200 or something similar be better and it would also increase the range at the same time?

Any help is appreciated.

From what I can tell, that router can be flashed with other firmware. You may want to consider doing that and increasing the power to the transmitter to get some additional range.

I've used repeaters in my network and they just add latency.
