SLI bridge removal with PC on?

Thread Starter
Hello would it be safe for my PC if I were to disable SLI mode via the nVidia control panel then remove the SLI bridge with the computer still on? I have a program called Octane Render which will utilize both my GTX 570's for 3D rendering, but it cannot work with SLI enabled and with an SLI bridge connector.

It's probably not a good idea, just take the time to turn off your PC for a few minutes and be certain everything'll be alright.

Do it while it's off. You don't want to risk damaging your PC.

Ok thanks all..I just wanted to see if I could save some transition time between rendering and gaming. RMA time would really suck compared to a 5 min reboot job. heh heh

what symptoms would you see if you took the bridge off? I havent had a succesful SLI yet due to a bad bridge anyway, as I just grabbed anotehr 560 and I had ordered a bridge off some shady amazon reseller... from asia. Was asus brand I unplugged it and back in a few times, only thing I saw was that in SLI the orange would go away, and just flicker black... rather than colors...

step: 1 ordering new bridge
step: 2 taking back the SUPER I RUN HOT pny 560 I got to sli with my MSI
step: 3 Order another MSI 560 Ti <3 <3 <3
step: 4 Get the new bridge in the mail
step: 5 Re-Install SLI Patch as I un-installed after it didnt work...
step: 6 FN ROCK OUT

Still NOT recommended to take it off while it's running. It's still electrical part. No matter what, SHUT it DOWN fully. Then turn surge off then TAKE it off. Oh.. ground yourself

I un-plugged a sata hard drive while my PC was running.

Let's just say I had to reinstall everything on that drive.

Haha I did this - the motherboard tray side of my case was off and I accidentally kicked the sata port out of the OS drive and windows bluecsreened ~5 seconds later.

I was cursing windows for being a pile of ass when it wouldn't boot after that...before I realised what I'd done.

Anyway sorry to hijack.
