Help with a build?

First of all, I don't know if this is in the right section or not, so apologies if it isn't.

I'm looking to build a new PC sometime between the summer and the winter. I know this is a bit of a broad timescale and I know how fast technology can move, but the basis is that I could build the PC in July/August but I'd have more money to do it in the winter. So that poses my first question; Should I wait?

My current rig is:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ @ Stock
Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2 (Has 2 dead RAM slots)
2GB DDR2 RAM @ 667Mhz
ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB
160GB HDD
650W PSU

I am looking for a PC that I can use to play Starcraft 2 on my 1080p monitor and other than that the PC will be used for general web browsing, photo editing and the odd video editing. If I get the computer in the winter, I'd have around £500-£600 GBP (On a tight student budget ) to spend so I was hoping that I could get some ideas as to good brands to choose (AMD vs Intel, nVidia vs ATi etc.) so that I can get the best value for money and the computer will do what I need it to do for the next few years. Any help, guidance or tips will be appreciated.

Thanks.

There is no winner all the time in terms of Intel vs. amd or ati vs. nvidia. Not exactly sure what the budget is maybe something like 900 dollars? to try and save some money you could try and re-use stuff from your old rig(maybe case, DVD drive etc.) to save money. If you are on a tight budget you are probably gonna either have to sacrifice either looks or performance. You might look into buying a barebones kit they can save you some money sometimes if you don't mind buying your parts bundeled. also where do you intend on buying your parts from so that I could try and make some recommendations.

P.S. welcome to OCN!

Thanks for the reply. I am looking to buy my parts from ebuyer.com. I am not looking to run Starcraft 2 at the highest settings either, low settings will do but it would be nice to be able to play other games with medium/high settings if I ever wanted to. I could probably re-use my DVD drive but not the case because my case is a creaking plastic pile of crap in all honesty. I may be able to reuse my PSU, but I do know that it's a generic brand.
