Upgrade MB with processor?

Thread Starter
So I have the below Gigabyte motherboard with the Phenom 2.5ghz quad core. I'm looking at getting the Phenom X6, and with a bios upgrade my existing board can accept it. My question is, should I upgrade to a newer MB as well to get the advantage of DDR3 and different FSB etc., or can I suffice with my existing setup? Price is an issue at this time, else I would do it no questions

Mostly gaming, graphic media (photoshop, illustrator, etc) Web, and general use. I want to get better response from my games, and I'm working on a better GPU.

Considering you've got a crappy Gigabyte 4+1 power phase board, I would NOT suggest you to put an x6 on it. You could handle maybe an Athlon II x4 on there, that's about it (or a 95w quad of any flavor).

If you do want to upgrade your board too, then you'll want to make sure you're getting a good quality board.

What would you suggest? What power phase is best for that type of application? On the same note, whats the disadvantages to the 4+1 I have now?

Oh, and I'm not dropping the AMD

IMHO, get the best GPU card you can and wait out the Dozer CPU and true AM3+ MB.
You'll also likely need to look into an adequate power supply too.

Whats adequate? 500w? 750w? Short of taking it out of the case I cant seem to find how much power I'm running now
