Sell my monitor for an IPS?

Thread Starter
My monitor is the Acer X263WBI

It's 1920x1200.

TN monitor.

Should I sell my monitor and get an IPS panel?

Depends what I can get for this one to see what my budget might be.

Ideas welcome.

Had crt till i got my 27 hanns-g lcd, hated it Loved the size but come on. I firer and the guy moved or i draw pasted him. Just delay in monitor got 120hz Love it, I know its a tn I got 2 but my plasma blows this away in colors, But i game on pc and watch movies on tv. SO not a hard one to fine where they need to be, Ya ppl say u cant see the delay. I say ya but i feel it feels like u r over tired. and the mouse / cross-hair glides past. then back. But to each their own. isp is nice but 2 u in colors. Or gamer (fps airplanes or driven Sims) That 1 mil sec saves or kills ya. But if rts , web-surfer, video editing then isp is for you.

That 5 ms difference in input latency isn't going to hurt you unless you are a top level gamer. You take about 100ms to react at the fastest and a monitor won't refresh any faster than 40ms. Yes it will help, but it's not something that should be put at the top of your purchasing criteria.

the problem of IPS monitor is not the responsive time, Dell, Asus and LG ips monitors are fastest and the ALL games run perfectly in single and multiplayer.

The problem is the AG coating !
Cause eyestrain when you are reading text or web browsing !

this issue is most visible in a 22" full HD, with small dot pitch + aggressive coating = hard to read cause headhit and eyestrain, but this is different user to user, for some users is good anyway.

The users that say this monitor is good haven't other monitors to compare.

There are two options to fix this

1: Ghetto mod the AG coating off. VERY VERY risky.

2: Get a monitor that doesn't have it, such as the apple cinema displays. From what I remember, they are IPS. At least the high end ones.

I've never heard of eyestrain being caused by the AG coating. Excessive brightness can cause it, but that's easily adjustable. The AG "graininess" is only really visible in whites and more of an annoyance than anything.

Yes, yes, yes, yes and especially yes.

I wanted a higher resolution so last Christmas I bought myself a 26" Samsung 1920x1200 T260HD. It looked great and I loved it. I then bought a 20" Dell 2007fp to use as a secondary monitor. It has an S-IPS panel. That 4 year old Dell LCD made my new Samsung with a TN panel look like garbage.

That is actually what prompted me to buy my 30" and it has been the single best purchase I have made in over 10 years of building and maintaining my own computers. Best purchase ever by far.

IPS panels look amazing. Much better than TN, in my opinion at least. You can game just fine on them too. In fact your games will never have looked better.

I just want to say that this is totally false. Maybe some competitive FPS players can tell the difference in response time from a TN and a modern IPS but I sure haven't been able to feel ONE difference.

You don't feel response times. You see them. You feel input lag.

However, modern IPS panels are very close to the average TN panels in both, and sometimes even beating them. So no, IPS is not any more terrible for gaming than the average TN. If your'e serious about gaming, it's 120hz or CRT
