Best FREE video editing program for Windows or OSX?

Thread Starter
Right now I am just using iMovie on OSX. I tried out Windows Live Movie Maker and it sucked so bad. I liked the old version of Movie Maker which came with Windows XP. Why did they have to change it...

So are there any other free ones which are better than iMovie? Again, it can be on either Windows or OSX since I have both OS's.

Edit: I kind of feel like this should have been in another section. Could a mod move it to the correct section please?

Its got more features than iMovie, but I think it only uses 1 core, so it will render slower.

Free only?

Ulead DVD Movie Factory is a pretty good program. I think current version is 6 and 5 sells for like half the price.

I guess, but it will be painfully slow rendering on a Core2Duo if it only uses a single core

You can try Avidemux:

http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/

It works for both OSX and Windows. It is a great open-source program. It's been around for years and has a pretty good support community.
