I have a hdd and it isn't "installed"

My question is 1. Is it REEEEALLY bad for any other component aside from the hard drive in question? 2. How long could it stay like this?

Ok I know that more information is probably needed. Well I wanted the data from my old computer so I ripped out the hard drive. When I tore off the side panel of my current sig rig I noticed why I hadn't done this sooner. It is a mess in there, everything is SO crammed and I just can't find the effort to really take everything apart ruin the finish and take out the cage to install it.

The hdd in question is out of the way of intake fans and exhaust fans, the cables are tucked away, and it has settled down just under my optical drive. It isn't vibrating loudly (that I know of) and the drive is recognized.

Just curious to see what problems this could cause to OTHER hardware, this hard drive is really meaningless to me.

On a good note I got to dust the side panel and clear some dust out of the rig.

You can run it like that, as some people do while taking data from one HDD to another, however, if you're leaving it in for an extended period of time, you may wish to properly secure it to avoid the possibility of a head crash or it hitting other components.

Hope it helps!

Wesker.

I honestly can't say how long it'll be in there, not long though. I missed the music I had on here, and some save games, that's all. It'll be as long as that takes. It really is settled nicely on top of the hard drive cage directly beneath the optical drive but I noticed it making some noise when I was accessing the old users file on the root of the drive which contains a hefty chunk of the data on that partition. It's some Hitachi drive that was marked as having a 320 gb capacity, my mother purchased a computer labeled having 500 gb capacity. Best Buy sucks.

If you don't intend to use the drive, why is it still connected?
