Hey everyone,

I really, really want a new GPU. However, I feel that I don't exactly need one, and I'm upgrading just for the hell of it. I'm sure many OCN members have been in this same situation from time to time.

Anyways, I've been looking at the 560ti, but still haven't pulled the trigger on it.
Why you ask?
Because of the 580!

I'll admit, I'm an EVGA fanboy. Can't beat their customer service, warranty, and step-up program.
Unfortunately, this means that my only option for the 560 is that terrible green color, which totally clashes with my system.
Awesome reason for not buying it, I know.

However, the 580 would look awesome in my opinion, here's a picture of my set-up for reference:

Sorry for the poor quality, I'm not exactly the best photographer. I think I was pretty hammered that day too, if that makes up for it.
And yes, don't worry, I've cleaned up my cables since taking the picture. Have Also added U-channel to the window. But you get the point.

So basically, I guess I'm just trying to see which way you guys will sway me.
Go for the 560, the 580, or to stop being a nerd and stick with my 260?

GTX 580 is a waste of money. Don't get it.

I'm in the same situation. I have this EVGA 260 Core 216 and can't decide if I should get another for SLI or upgrade.

Would there be a significant difference of two 260s vs one 560/580?

Can't disagree more. The GTX580 is worth every penny.

But I'd get the GTX560 ti and I'd get the MSI Twin Frozr II because of the excellent cooling system it uses.

Depends how much you game what you're playing, I would suggest that if all you do is play COD or WOW then you don't need to upgrade. If you don't need to upgrade, spend your money on something less transient, like furniture, lol, something solid with a 15 year guarantee!!!

We all get the itch to upgrade at some point, I think the only solution is to fall so out of touch with the current tech that you don't know what's good any more!!

If your anything like me you'll be buying a system and telling yourself you need all that power, and then spend your time playing through half life 2, lol.

iirc, one GTX560 would best the GTX260 SLI.

Hands down the GTX 580. Coming from a GTX 580 owner.

This has been the best card I have ever owned, i've had zero problems.

I don't care if you disagree. It's a horrible value for the performance it gives. You want good price/performance, you get a Radeon HD 6850, GTX 560 Ti, or Radeon HD 6950.

If the purpose is solely to upgrade for the sake of upgrading, then why are you all so concerned with offering savings?? lol

Upgrading simply for the purpose of upgrading is stupid. Well, not if you care about a giant e-peen, but that's a topic for another day. You might as well just recommend a GTX 590 or HD 6990.
