How can you argue that the 580 isn't a good card?

Its the fastest single GPU card on the planet, runs significantly cooler than the 480, is 20% more efficient than the 480, is quieter than the 480 and runs anything you can throw at it. And lets not forget that the 480 was the fastest single GPU card in the previous generation. So that is no mean feat

Yes, it must be a terrible card
Coming from a butthurt 580 owner.

Yes indeed, the 580 doesn't offer the same performance as 6950/560 when looking at price. Does that mean 580 is a bad card? No. Does that mean there are better options out there? Depends.

Just get a 580.

Virtual girls will flock you from every direction (as long as you don't ask their real name and gender).
Your friends will think very highly of you when you brag (or lowly, if they are not "true" friends).
Your won't believe how better your porn looks like (Your 7TB of porn is just eager to look better).

If value/money isn't that of an issue, the GTX580 is awesome.
Value/money, you can get a couple of 560s for the same price as the 580, and get much better performance on the single screen.

All this not a good card, not value/money/performance/epeen, its all useless talk.
You want real value/money, you get a couple of 460s second hand.

gtx 560, or better yet sli will outperform the gtx 580. If aesthetics is a concern, get another manufacturer. MSI has really great customer service and the gtx 560 TFII looks fantastic
post #69 of 104
I got to say,
I had some cash to spent on Graphics...I started with a GTX590, which was overkill at my resolution and I didn't like what I saw (cards blowing up, GPU cores downclocking...)...I scored 41 000 3Dmarks Vantage with PhysX on with the GTX590...

I RMA'd the GTX590, and bought two MSI 560Ti TFII OC and scored 39 100 points...my proofs...

GTX590 (was a nice EVGA Classified with 630MHz core) PHYSx was ON

MSI 560Ti TwinFrozr II in SLI with PHYSx ON

Of course, at higher resolutions, the more VRAM you have the better it is...so RESOLUTION has to be part of the equation....

I'll stay on OP post topic and the cards his road options he's chosen without selling him something he didn't ask for or isn't interested in.

If you want the best single card solution without SLI / Crossfire issues that might arise then the GTX 580 is your card. No problems with it at all, drivers rock, in fact drivers have improved gaming for me already and will continue to do so because Nvidia gives the GTX 580 thier love. VRM is great, very overclockable with no issues at all. I put mine in and don't deal with anything but gaming buttery smooth FPS on all my games AA x16, 1920x1080p HD resolution on my 120Hz monitor and haven't looked back.

EVGA is a great choice. MSI Lightning or ASUS DCUII for other choices would be just as well. Depends if you don't mind the air dumping into your tower or out the back air flow bracket outside the tower.

For those sqawking about price/performance horse, they must have a budget, you didn't say you were on one and it's the best single GPU on the market without being a dual GPU.

If you could get better FPS from one card and money isn't an issue then their point is moot and why wouldn't anyone want a better card? You'll be playing games for quite a bit without any issues.

With your PSU you'll even be more than ok to SLI another GTX 580 later when prices go down and will be a very very powerful solution.

IF you should decide you want an SLI option the two GTX 560's are your next best bet. I'd go this route before adding a GTX 260 SLI. Again no issues, drivers already improved only to improve more as they mature, and they are very over clockable as well. Will out due the GTX 580 single card solution in performance where SLI games are enabled. I agree with Booty Warrior and to look good in your rig the Crysis 2 models will be a good match.

So my suggestion to you is the GTX 580 single card to SLI in a year or two with the GTX 560 SLI option over getting another GTX 260 second. Good luck in your decision and let us know which route you went and post back.
