Two 6970s beat two 580s, or tie them, and are way less.

They don't beat down or tie with two 580s.

But yes, they are less.

Wrong and fail on performance....GTX 580's SLI beat AMD 6970's crossfire easily, not close to tie or similar performance.

Right on price, you get what you pay for.

lol this thread is still going, awesome.
I actually had a nerd dream last night that I had a three monitor set-up.
Maybe I should dip into my savings and just go all out, spoil myself for once.
What card(s) would you guys recommend for an Eyefinity/nVidia Surround set-up?

Either AMD 6970 2GB crossfire for Eyefinity or GTX 580 3GB SLI for Nvidia Surround. Both will run multiple monitor set ups and at greater resolution just fine. Not to get off the OP question.

I'm the OP, so it's all good.
Thanks for the suggestions!

What's the general consensus on what's better, Eyefinity or nVidia Surround?

Well AMD had more GB's per card and was the better choice for multiple monitors with larger resolution for quite some time until the GTX 580's came out with the 3GB cards this week.

Now you will do it less expensively with the AMD 6970's 2GB version and without problem, great cards. If money isn't an option, you'll do even better with GTX 580's 3GB version now.

I have to say get the 580 simply because it is a best but you can always just take the stickers off the card.

I took the stickers off of my evga gtx 570
