GTS 250 as Dedicated PhysX?

Thread Starter
I recently purchased a GTX 460, and Love it! However, I still have my old GTS 250 1GB layin in the box, and I don't really want it to go to waste. I doubt I currently have enough power to run both cards in my system, so I'd have to upgrade.

The Question I'm asking is: Does having a GTS 250 as a dedicated PhysX card make much of a difference? And, what titles support PhysX?
Also, is a P45 chipset capable of doing that?

If you have another PCI-E slot. why not?

PCI-E 1x is good enough.

You might get extra performance in games supporting PhysX but nothing amazing. Plus there arent many games with full PhysX support. I know Mafia II, Metro 2033 and a few others.

Yea... that's what I figured. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money to get a new PSU and get minimal any performance increase... especially in games I don't really play tongue.gif

I don't think its worth the extra power consumption. That card is going to use more power, even when idle.. for like 5 games that you may never even play.

Dedicated PhsyX cards died with the newer cards IMO. Most new cards can handle the games fine by themselves.

Why not use it for folding?
I would just sell it to be honest. Use the money toward a future purchase.
Or just give it to a friend in need of a decent card. smile.gif
post #8 of 10
I wouldnt upgrade just to stick in another card thats going to do what your main card can already do. Now if you had an AMD card as main card, then maybe.

You really think a 520Watt can handle all that?

Look @ my specs.
