Faster boot time. SSD and 500GB F3 raid?

Thread Starter
From a sudden impulse I am going to buy an SSD for my OS drive. I would like to speed up my system boot a lot (Currently 56secs?!) and just programs I always use (basically firefox and thunderbird possibly word or something like that either way storage doesnt need to be high proably 32GB). Also what is the best or is it even possible raid config for my samsung F3 and an SSD? Which speeds performace up? I am gonna check out some raid guides once this is posted but was hoping for more experienced people to give us some suggestions on which SSD (im on budget! so deffo <£100 please and really as cheap as possible but not for it to be a waste of buying an SSD)

Thanks :d

I don't even know if it is possible, but raiding an SSD w/ a HDD would be pointless.

After reading a little on RAID. Is that because the HDD would almost be dragging down an SSD's speed/performace? As if it were making an average of both HD's speed?

Honestly I would forget about the SSD and raid0 a pair of f3 1t's or even 500 gb's. That way you get speed and storage.
Use the SSD as the main drive and dont even bother Raiding the other drives just use them for storage,

It will give you more storage at the end of the day plus then you wont have the worry of the Raid array going down and losing Data unless you setup a mirror Raid array

Ok so I can get an SSD and stick the OS on it and the other highly used apps then would need to install other programs on the F3? Also any suggestions on SSD?

Thanks for replies guys

That comes down to your Budget,

Crucial, OCZ, Intel, kingston ?

Edit
have a look at some of the scores here
http://www.overclock.net/ssd/754763-...rk-thread.html

Remeber that you are looking for a single SSD score not the Rais set ones

Ok yea thats cool. Looking at either 32Gb or 64Gb then and yea Kingston seem to have good read/write speeds? Or are they not even worth paying that much attention too?

Edit: OCZ got very high read/write too my bad

It takes like 7-8 secs from a cold boot to be ready in win 7 for me w/ a Intel 80GB G2. I have to say that once you use a SSD as OS drive, you'd never go back to normal HDDs. Also i'd go with at least a 64GB SSD.
