Another "are my temps normal" thread

Thread Starter
Have been running WC for 2 months now. My first setup ever. Therefor I'm not quite sure what's good or bad.
Could you please tell me?

My WC-setup
The rad is fitted in top of my 800D along with 3 Noctua NF-P12 blowing air through the rad and out through the top of the case. No shrouds.

CPU voltage is 1.285
PLL voltage is 1.82
VTT voltage is 1.54 (anything under gets BSOD in seconds @ load)
HT is ON
Running 191x21 is 4.0 Ghz

Besides the CPU I also have one 6950 in the loop running 840/1325. Since I have 3 monitors connected the card wont go down in 2d-mode and was idleing 60 degrees on stock air cooler.

Running 4 simultaneous threads (not using HT) of Intel Burn Test the hottest core will reach 76-77 degrees after about half an hour. I was expecting much lower temps really.
Roomtemp 25-26 degrees. Fan outlet temp about 37 degrees (measured with a cheap IR-temp meter).
All fans & pump running full speed.

The GPU idles around 48 degrees during the testing. Otherwise around 43 degrees.

Playing Crysis for an hour will give hottest core temp 66-67 degrees and GPU-temp of 58 degrees.

Could you please tell me you opinion?

Hard to say without your ambient. If your room is 55c then those are great temps, if your room is 10c then those are terrible.

I run my i7 870 at 4.2 Ghz and max out at 61c with a GTX 470 inside my 700d case. But I have 6 fans in push / pull and possibly lower ambient. My ambient is 22.5c, what's yours?

Your radiator fans are pretty terrible for the application.

The temperatures taking a good bit of time creep up and stabilize is a pretty good indicator that your loop is lacking in heat rejection capacity.

I'd look at higher airflow fans, and switching from exhausting case air through the radiator to intaking room air through it.
If you just really insist on slow, quiet, low static pressure fans, you will need more radiator.

Room temp is 25-26 degrees. Case temp, dunno. Gonna get a T-Balancer to monitor and controll temps better later on.

I was getting that idea also after reading some tests on fans for WC. Apperently not the same as for aircooling.
Gonna get 3 Scythe GT-15s along with fan schrouds as soon as my economy allows.

*update* bought a used XSPC RX360 rad yesterday. Will it improve cooling much?

RX360's are awesome. It will improve the cooling. The fans you have at the moment are pretty terrible, I will agree with Celeal.

As they have a low FPI (fins per inch) count, they are most suited to slower fans. Personally, I have my fans at ~1400 RPM and it works fine. Those Gentle Typhoons will go awesome with your RX360!

Obviously faster fans will increase the cooling however you need some sort of balance between temperatures and air.

this. You want outside air coming in through your radiator, not air from inside the case which is already above ambient.

And those fans arent really meant for radiators, they have low static pressure. I suggest some ap-15s, or some yate loons, or even some cm blade masters. But i would definately change the air direction of your rad fans.

Have you got any idea on how many degrees the cooling will improve changing from the Magicool Slim and Noctuas to the XPSC RX360, GT15s and Schrouds?

Do anyone have a clue to what improvements I can see adding another 120 rad to my system?

I've read that rotating the EK Supreme HF to make the fins run horisontal will improve cooling somewhat. Can anyone confirm this?

I also wonder about the thermal paste. Been using quite thick layer of Scythe Thermal Elixir to ensure no metalpart of the heatspreader on the CPU goes without paste. Is this way to much paste?

Will receive the RX360 and 3 AP15-fans tomorrow. Maybe I should reseat the CPU-block at the same time with less paste?
