"I don't like how the 8800GT is price the same as the 470"

Brilliant
The point is, word gets around about Newegg and other such sites. People like us who know, tell our friends, and if they need help with something they purchase, I help fix it or Newegg does. Buying "normal" priced gear is only a small reason. Knowledge, as you stated is a big factor. I was talking with a friend about my laptop and wanted to know if he could find a laptop with as many USB ports as mine (he loves his gadgets) and I told him that it was possible or he could just get a USB hub. The sales person at best buy heard me say my laptop had 6 usb ports and went around asking other sales persons if they sold laptops with 6 usb ports. Moral is, that sales person was completely out of their league and had no idea what we were actually looking for (a laptop with alittle more power for light gaming, which is why I was there). You pointed out this flaw. How do you fix it? You cant. Paying people just over min wage wont get you the geeky geeks who know about computers. The other thing is, best buy tells its sales persons to promote what they are told, regardless if its a bad product, hence my mention of Win Me!

Its also nice that you picked the price comparison out of my post and nothing about the lack of knowledge and the willingness to be sheeple's. But hey, keep fighting the good fight.

The price comparison, as well as the rest of your posts, are completely useless, therefore I pointed them out. I can tell you tried here, but I don't work in computers any longer, and the people at my Best Buy are apparently far more knowledgeable than the average Best Buy employee, and get payed far better since you all have worked at Best Buys and can vouch for the pay scale apparently.

I can't speak for other Best Buys, but mine does not instruct the sales employees to push products they don't believe in for any reason, and if they are heard spouting garbage they are educated as soon as we are made aware. Either my actual experiences working for the company are far, far out of the ordinary or there are some awfully cynical pricks in the thread who have seriously inflated egos over their relatively insignificant technical knowledge. Despite all that I know, and all that most of you know, the vast majority of us are still near the bottom of the ladder when it comes to really having knowledge about technology. Being able to fix your sisters computer or build your own PC gaming machine doesn't make you an expert, just more knowledgeable than the herd, which isn't different or admirable, and it doesn't make you better than them either. Every day people come up to me embarassed by how little they know about computers, but I cannot feel superior because while I do know about technology, I'm sure each and every customer I talk to could teach me something about some other area where I am as clueless as they are. The majority of you really need to grow up.

This is a good idea, I do want to see if we can get a bigger variety of games for people to try out. Or at least some demo's playing of popular games showing some of the major game mechanics

Back for a quick sec. I like the try b4 you buy idea as well. How about a dedicated gaming section with a PC (or a few of them for choice via kvm) and a gamers chair or some sort of really good workstation, and have a few peripherals that can be hooked up to test with the game of choice. For gamers, this would let them test the game, the PC, and the peripherals all at a single station, and it wouldn't take up much space at all. Throw on a time limit or something so a single person doesn't spend 30 mins and waste your/others time though... 5 mins per game/setup when its busy would be more then enough... I would think.

Edit> and multi monitor setups on display. You might get someone with a lot of money hooked on eyefinity or something, that would be a nice sell

Look I can tell you want to fix things. The hard part is dealing with people who have had such negative experiences. Every BB I have been to has been the same. I do know their payscale where I live. I do also know that our geeksquad pushed the Vista launch with every ounce of their being even though, the ones I knew outside of BB hated it.

I dont want to keep wasting your time so I will give some advice. I know you can't control what inventory comes in, but not putting a $200 8800 on the same shelf of a GTX 4xx for around the same price isnt cool. That may be just the store near me. One thing I would love to see BB have, education. Rather than just have Geeksquad just fix it for them everytime. Have an area and time where BB offers free classes about how to protect yourself from viruses and spyware w/o Anti-V/S software, or maybe paid classes for how to use certain widely used software like most MS suites. Educating the "herd" would go far further than most anything other change. My

Thank you, appreciate the input. I do know knowledge is the biggest issue and that has been reiterated here thoroughly, so that will definitely be my biggest focus.

A couple game demo stations for all platforms would be cool. A PC demo station that had eyefinity and some of the best components running some new games that are of the best visual quality would probably get some people to buy monitors for eyefinity and more components and stuff.

You could also have a compatibility station set up so people could put in what they have and see if what they want is compatible easier.

I would suggest that you have them hook the Alienware PC up as gaming demos, not a crappy Asus. In my best buy they have an Asus with a HD 5450 playing Crysis at about 15 FPS. Needless to say the graphics look amazing, but it would be a better sale for bestbuy if they tried to sell the Alienware that can actually run the game. I mean the Asus was labeled as Gaming and $999 dollars with a 1055t and the 5450 and the $1200 Alienware had a i5 750 and a GTX 460, I think. Both are overpriced, but if you had your stored shift these labels and demo stations around you would look real good to higher ups. I would much rather go into best buy and see a decent PC, the Alienware, running a game than seeing some PoS PC. I might even buy that Alienware if they advertised it and pushed it instead of the Asus because that is a decent PC for the $1200 price point.

As far as the games go, I think the selection of PC games is great. Prices seem good too, most of the time matching or beating the Game Stop down the street, I hate buying from Steam.

I also think it would be really cool if Best Buy took up selling Best Buy PCs. Throw together a nice rig and sell it with the BB name. Of course keep the price reasonable to compete with iBuyPower. Wal Mart recently took them on so it would open up competition for BB, especially if BB employees can tell me why the system is good.

This may have been a huge mess of text like ranting or a helpful post, but I am subbing to add more insight. GL with you job mate.

Also, float some of your associates around the GPU dept. I think they could really help people make a good choice. I have seen many people in my BB pick up a $250 NV branded GTX 460 when a GTX 560 Ti is there for a very reasonable $299.99. I do not see why so many people bash BB when it is, in most occasions, the uninformed consumer's fault.
