Proper hard drive erasing procedure before selling on eBay?

I have an external hard drive which I will be selling on eBay and I need to know what steps I should take to completely get rid of the previous data. I have already formated the disk multiple times to both NTFS and FAT32.

Is there anything else I should do? I had some password files on here before and I want everything to be completely gone. Thanks!

That Dban thing says it will wipe any HD it can find o_O. I don't want it to delete my PC's main HD

You can pick which ones you want to wipe. Or you can pull your OS drive out if you want since you're just booting to a disk.

you can select which HDD you wish to wipe as long as you dont use the auto command or you can unplug all the other HDDs to be safe as DBAN uses its own version of linux/unix
post #6 of 16
Only plug in the drive you want to erase. Unplug all your other drives from the motherboard.

Does this gutmann pass really make data irrecoverable?

I never once sold any of my used HDD because I've always heard data could be recovered somehow.

If this really works, perhaps I can finally sell a few of them safely.

pretty much unless the buyer has lot of time (I mean like a few years to dedicate to recovery)

Who's gonna pay 100s of dollar recovering the hard drive they pay $50 for... You should be OK.
