I am currently in the process of bulding my first PC ever and I need your help.

Thread Starter
First off lets start with my setup.

CPU - i5 2500k

Motherboard - BIOSTAR TP67XE

RAM - 4gb G.SKILL ripjaw x 1600

GPU - SPARKLE 1gb GTX 460

PSU - XFX XXX EDITION 650w

HDD - SAMSUNG F3 1tb

CD/DVD - ASUS 24x

CASE - CoolerMaster Storm Scout

ok so I have a few questions.

- when I was installing my cpu onto my motherboard, as I was clamping it down you could hear like a crunching noise. so I took it out and did it again and still heard it. Is this normal?

- as I was installing the intel cpu fan, when you press down on those 4 tabs only 2 of mine clicked but i checked the back of the motherboard and it seems secure. is it?

- My motherboard has 5 sata ports (two sata1, two sata2, and one sata3 i believe) and I'm only going to be using 3 ports, 1 for my hdd, 1 for my cd/dvd drive, and another for the front sata port on my case. Which sata ports do I hook them up to or does it even matter?

- And to connect my HDD all i need to do is hook it up with a sata port as well as a sata power port correct? because looking at it i think it has 2 more ports for something.

- The rear panel cover thingy that came with my motherboard to install on my case, it has like these metal flaps that are folded in at like a 45 degree angle. Am I suppose to break these off or something?

Uhm I may have more questions but that's all I can think of for now. Again sorry for being such a noob but I just really want to do it right.

1. Yes, it's normal for P67 boards/K processors. Happened to me too. Don't worry, you'll have to use force but it won't be enough to break it.

2. Not sure, never used Intel stock heatsink.

3. You want to hook your HDD up to SATA 3 for fast write/read times. Everything else doesn't matter.

4. That's correct.

5. I've never bothered putting an I/O board on my motherboards, so I unfortunately cannot help you there.

1. Did you orient the CPU the right, it should be it can only go in one way.
2. Not quite sure don't use Intel stock cooler
3. You can use any it doesn't matter, but use SATA 3 ports for HDD
4. for hard drives it need two parts to run, a SATA power from the PSU and a SATA cable to the motherboard
5. Not quite sure what your trying to say, but mines not even in right lol

Hope this helps

Did you use standoffs? How loud with the crunching noises? It shouldn't be that loud, but it should happen.

Don't break the flaps on the back panel off. They snap into the case before the motherboard gets installed, or at least mine did. I too just built my first computer and that crunching noise was gruesome. When I heard it I was like omg was that 350 bucks down the drain?!?!?! But it posted and I installed windows and it runs fine.

1, that's normal

2, they all should have clicked! So make sure it is secure!

Yes

The rear panel cover thingy
Those tabs are probably supposed to earth it! They so of "spring load against" what ever part of the motherboard they touch!
This is assuming that you're talking about the one that came with the Mobo!

Add you system here
