Normal for a 6970 to run much hotter in eyefinity?

With the PC just sitting not running any GPU intensive progrmas and just sitting on the desktop the temps used to be around 31-33 and now with 3 monitors on the same fan profile it is 41-43. IS this ok or even normal?

FPS of course dropped like a stone on Black ops and Just cause 2 I have turn everything way down to evn get near 30FPS. I need to learn how to OC the card and the CPU I guess.

When you have multiple monitors connected the default idle "2D" clock is 400/1000 (core/memory) as opposed to 157/300 in a single monitor configuration.

Yes, 400/1000 causes the card to run significantly warmer during idle.

Yes. Multiple monitors will make video cards run higher 2D clocks. AMD and Nvidia do this because it takes more processing power to run multiple monitors.

Here is my screen shot right now.

You should be able to max or near max Black Ops in eyefinity with a single 6970. If you turn down the AA to 2x or 4x in JC2 you should be able to get a steady 30 FPS with everything else set to high.

Ya I though I could in JC2 as well but I turned AA all the way down and other things that were set to high or very high to medium or low and I still barely get 30 with it set at 4800x900. At 5760x1080 it just sits around 20FPS.

That's strange dude I can almost max any game with my unlocked 6950 @ 5760x1080 res. It doesn't run at 60 fps but it barely ever drop under 30. I do overclock mine a bit tho when gaming (920/1350).

I'd post some screenies but i'm sort of trying to study tongue.gif

In regards to your heat question, my card runs at 55C idle with 450MHZ on the core so dw your temps are fine. :-)

what games are you playing that you can maintain 30? I just ran Black ops at full and 5980x1080 and maintain 60fps. Just cause 2 just rapes this card in eyefinity. I cant run anything even on medium setting and AA has to be lowest and below 5000x1000 res to get 30fps. I have not tried OC'ing my card in afterburner. MSI said that I can crank it up to the max of 950 core clock and not touch memory clock and be fine and it has a failsafe if it gets messed up. It has the bios switch. I am just really gun shy about doing it. The afterburner software wont let you go over 1450 memory clock either. Shaders are locked and core voltage is locked but I can unlock it I think.

Do you feel like oyu are getting dizzy with 3 monitors? It messing with my eyes.

Don't play just cause, or at least don't have high expectations with that game. It's heavily configured for green cards not red.

As for AB, you have to "unlock" the voltage and enable "unofficial overclocking."

In eyefinity, don't directly look at the side monitors. They're there for peripheral vision not direct view in games.

Well JC2 played just fine on my 40" sammy at full graphics with no issue at 60FPS. I knew it would go down with 3 monitors but I didnt think it would be this bad.

Ya it doesnt matter if I just look at the front monitor. I still get dizzy feeling. I will get used to it I guess. As for the OC of the card, I am not sure how to do it right but I want to get more out of this card. I have seen a lot of threads about people having issues after doing the unofficial overclock. I just dont want to flush 300 bucks down the toilet by voiding the warranty. If I can just raise up the core clock to 950 and the memory clock to 1400 or so without worry I would do it. I am not informed enough to know how it all affects the cards stability or how to adjust voltage the right way or even know what to look for if something is not going right. I was planning on getting another 6970 or even a 6990 by the time Battlefield 3 comes out to use in cross fire with my 6970.
