1K video cards - Page 3

1080p/60Hz and $1,000 worth of GPU power is not worth it. Grab a single 580/570/6970/6950 and be able to run most to anything.

I think you meant Radeon is the way to go for multi-monitor set up. If you meant actual 3D movies or gaming Nvidia does 3D way better than AMD hands down.

Why are you guys saying only run a single? Have you seen any of the reviews with 1920x1080 running ultra high and 4xAA in Crysis? That game eats a single card for lunch and it's WAY to jittery for my taste. If the set up doesn't pull a min of 45-60fps with settings like this I don't want it. Hence why Crossfire or SLI is the only way to go. I'm tired of buying mid range or a single high end card just to be disappointed. That is also one of the reasons for such a high class mother board. This isn't your money, so why would you care? I'm simply looking for the best card setup around 1K, that's it. Maybe I put too much info on my set up in the beginning like that. But I know everyone would be asking the same ole questions of what res and if I'm going multi monitor (which I personally hate) so I made it easy and put it out there. Hell Ive been playing Half Life with everything in the catalyst center turned up and the game looks pretty damn good for being so old.

So in short I just want to know your opinion (unbiased hopefully) on which is the best set up for 1K.

Thank you to those that have actually helped.

Horse hockey, I'm running Crysis 2 past (maxed mind you) 60FPS on my one GTX 580 SC with slight overclock. I own it, I should know. Naturally you can get more FPS SLI or Crossfire. Dosen't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Double up your AMD 6870 and get better performance than one high end card, but don't say that one high end card isn't enough when it surely is.

No stutter btw and your AMD 6870 card is low mid range so your problems are your card. Crossfire it to get a tad better than GTX 580 performance and you'll be fine.

Beside everyone here has told you - 6990 + 6970 or two 580's for your situation, including myself.

In that case get yourself dual 580's or single 590

If u got 1k for cards to blow....well if u got a lil extra, just got for dual 580 lightnings. The upgraded PCB will allow for amazing overclocking, overkill maybe, but u don't seem to mind

buy AMD 6990 better~good for 4GB framebuffer
post #29 of 32
I currently own a single 580 and have considered a 2nd 580, but for the time being i can run all the games a play on Ultra settings without problems. Plus i need to factor in the price of the waterblock as well.

I'd either get a 6990 or a 590 and leave it at that or get a single 580 now and get another one in a few months. The price of 580s are alraedy going down (At least here in Norway) so it won't be long until you can get a good price on the 2nd.

That game is like 4 years old now. I wouldn't buy a card with maxing that game as my main focus.
