"Gaming" headphones a sham??

Thread Starter
Basically, I found out pretty recently that the best headphones for gaming might not be those labelled "gaming" headphones at all, which was pretty startling to me. I was looking for a replacement for my old busted up Turtle Beaches and thought I could just navigate the typical gamer's headphone circuit (Razer, Logitech, etc.), but now I'm finding that I have to take into consideration real audiophile brans (AT, Sennheiser).

I guess the real question is do offerings from more traditional, audiophile, "not marketed to gamers" headphones actually beat out ones that are sold for gamers?

Ah... and as a follow up question... please recommend a good pair of headphones for gaming and computer music listening. Portability not important. Budget is about $100.

I really appreciate the help xD

Gaming headsets have a microphone, audiophile headsets actually sound good. Pick one.

You can get a cheap microphone and attach it easy (there like 7$)

I've never actually shopped for a gaming headset, but all the ones I've seen had microphones.

They arent "shams" but gaming headphones usually focus on aesthetic appeal rather than sound quality/build quality.
