Well, let's see here. This will play those games at very good settings. I'm actually quite surprised you can build something this good for $300:

Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB (Recert): $27

Xigmatek NRP-PC402 400W: $35

Patriot 2GB DDR3: $20

MSI G41M-P23: $50

: $44

: $25

: $35

EVGA 9800GT Akimbo (Recert): $50

Total with shipping: $299

This is absolutely great for the price. The 9800GT will perform more than well in those games you mentioned and the Celeron E3400 can be easily taken to 3GHz, not to mention it's really a Core 2 Duo with disabled cache. The Power Supply is top notch, too.

Wow thank you. Is this everything required for a PC? And again thanks, I like the looks of it

I've been playing around with it and anything I put together doesn't have much in the way of expandability anyway, unless I go with an AM2 board with DDR2 RAM and use onboard video and a Corsair 430 watt PSU which would let you add a GTX 460 or something for Christmas.

With no real expandability (or possibly money/desire anyway), maybe an Acer Aspire Revo which lists for 350, but goes for under 300 refurbished (and maybe on sale - I haven't been tracking).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883103297

The Ion 2 and D525 don't make for high-end gaming, but they work well for Source stuff. Hit the Steam summer sale when everything Valve takes the massive drop and you'll have good and cheap gaming to get you through school...

EDIT - Nevermind go with that build LOL_Wut_Axel posted!
