Xeon E3-1230 cheaper, nearly same as i7 2600

Thread Starter
I've discovered something interesting. I've always hought Xeons were a higher premium priced product than the desktop counterparts, but that isn't strictly the case it seems. this comparison at ark.intel.com should lay it out pretty clearly: http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=52213,52271,

On newegg, the E3-1230 is $55 cheaper than the i7 2600, lacks integrated graphics (big whoop), and has an 80W TDP (15 less than the 2600). It's also 0.2GHz slower, but other than that, pretty much the same chip, same process, same socket, same cores, same threads for $55 less. It's also a Xeon, so that generally implies a higher binned product to boot. If Integrated graphics is actually something you want, there's an E3-1235, which is equipped with integrated graphics (presumably HD3000, but can't find any info to confirm) and priced at $250.

Also, the X3440 is essentially an i7 860, but for considerably less (on newegg at least) as well.

I want to know if it's unlocked. I made a thread about this awhile ago.
