clouded tubing??

Thread Starter
Is it normal for clear tubing to get clouded over time? The cloudyness is on the inside of the tube not the outside. I re-did my entire loop yesterday when i noticed this.

I rinsed all my parts with near boiling distilled water before first use 6 months ago. I also use a kill coil so im pretty sure its not microbes. Is this normal, or did I do something wrong?

I would assume it's normal. Mine gets slightly cloudy looking over time, but I've only had this loop running for around a month so it's not looking bad yet.

How bad is yours?

Yeah I bought PrimoChill PRO LRT UV Red tubing when I bought my XSPC kit in December and my water is still crystal clear.

i was using tygon tubing, not the stock stuff the kit came with. I had the loop up and running for atleast 6 months.

and the water was crystal clear, it was just the tubing. It was on the inside. When i drained the loop i emptied some of it into a glass to examine and it was clear.

Hrm. Was almostlike a film on the inside of the tubing.

edit: actually it was more like a residue than a film.

It is likely to be the plasticizer leaching out of the tubing, a common issue I wish I had been aware of before I bought my tubing.
My 1/2id x3/4od Tygon R-3603 tubing is doing the same thing. Annoying, but I can live with it.

Many places sell plasticizer free Tygon tubing.

Yeah that is normal. You need to run some vingar-water through your loop for a bit. Then drain it and go back to your regular coolant...I've never ran it in a warm loop as I would probably start to smell vingar in the room.

From what I have read, the warmer the loop runs, the faster the tubing will turn cloudy.

Mine clouded up pretty fast, less than a month of use, because my rig runs at 100% CPU and GPU use 24/7 folding at ambient temps up to 30ºC, so the loop is pretty warm most of the time, water temps up to 37ºC.
