Certain orbs on the talent tree allow you to apply a mutagen, which will give you the enhancement that particular mutagen says. In some cases it's more vitality, or better resistance to certain things, etc... They're definitely not as significant as in the first game however...

mutagens only fit in the end of the trees. 2 in the base tree, the 3 end ones on magic and swordsman, and the last 5 of alchemy. Alchemy also has one that boosts mutagens strength.

after you buy the ability, you when you select it, a mutate button will pop up, select it, and then you can slot a mutagen.

I don't think the game will take me close to the first one, but I foresee longer than what most other's are saying... haha and no, I'm not dying constantly. (wanted to get that in there before someone tried to say it)

I tend to get a good amount of time out of games, I explorer every inch I possibly can. So far I'm happy with the length of TW2 considering the over-all quality of the whole game.
I definitely got a lot more mileage out of The Witcher. My first playthrough TW2 I spent probably 20 hours in Flotsam, but to me every other zone pales in comparison so I wasn't as motivated to just hang out and explore. Flotsam was by far the high point of the game for me. So 20 hours for Prologue & Ch 1., and 20 hours for Ch. 2, 3, and Epilogue = 40 hours as my final count (first playthrough). Second playthrough I went a lot quicker.

Anybody else really miss isometric camera angles? I think they'd be so great in this game. I've wanted to pull the camera out and see Flotsam or Vergan from a bird's eye view so many times

Is this game supposed to be hard? I'm on easy mode and I keep getting killed by mobs. I'm only like one level in!

To me, it's definitely hard. If I put the game on normal it takes me a good 3-4 minutes to kill maybe 2-3 normal enemies. As cool as that sounds and as much game time it might add, it definitely gets annoying to me after awhile.. so I dropped it to easy. So it's not too easy, but no too hard.

This.

The prologue is difficult compared to most of the game. I found once I upgraded quen it became much easier. Quen owns in this game at times

Really? O_o

Not to sound like a d-bag, but I found Hard mode to be too easy my second playthrough. Once you get Parry, Riposte, and 2x Roll, combat is basically just those 3 moves with signs and backstabbing thrown in for fun.
