I find it very unlikely your system is using 480w. I haven't looked at the specs (thereby assumed wattage) but I should not be that much. How did you test it ?

Anyway .. Have you monitored your temps at load ? or perhaps at idle. That could be the issue instead.
When my GPU OC fails I usually hear a noise similiar to yours while using my headphones.

If not, a new PSU is needed, indeed.

The XFX 650W Black Editon is very decent as well. Modular afaik.
Or perhaps this Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green - 80 Bronze, very decent reviews and only $70. You don't need anymore wattage.

Btw.
Nvidia recommend 450W minimum for your GPU, and the 8800GTX draws lesser power than your 8800GTS, which I find very odd.

just a thought but if the op ever wants to go dual graphic cards then a 500 watt would be cutting it close...
so a gud 600-650 watt would be my choice as it will last longer for the op....

Indeed, but he didn't mention anything about SLi ... So we have to use what we have.

Your system could run on a quality 300W. The 8800GTS uses very little power compared to modern high-end cards. 260W sounds about right for total system power consumption.
