Noctua NH-D14 Question

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of getting the Noctua NH-D14. It is compatible with my new case that i ordered the HAF 932 Advanced. But it isn't compatible with my ram. My ram is Corsair XMS3 DHX DDR3 2x 2GB 1600Mhz | TW3X4G1600C9DHX

I am running a Asus rampage II gene. It has 2 x triple channel DDR3. Currently i have my RAM in Channel A. I figured if i put them in Channel C so the very last 2 slots that the Noctua NH-D14 will fit. But do i lose RAM performance if i have the first 4 slots open?

Another question is what thermal paste to use. i have read reviews that Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra the best paste is at the moment. Is this true or do u guys advice another paste?

I think your RAM should fit (Don't quote me on it)

I had to take 1 RAM fin off but fitted smile.gif

Are those heat fins easy removable? Cause i had a feeling when i placed them they were pretty firmly on.

this is a picture of the ram.
But the question remains should i use another thermal paste then the one that comes with D14 or not? and does switching my ram to channel c reduce its preformance?

BTW very nice and helpfull guide will surely have that page open when i am installing the cooler.

Just move the 120mm fan up a notch.

If they are placed fairly firmly and aren't held there by screws, I wouldn't recommend removing them.

I've got the P6X58D, the D14 only blocks the first slot with the actual heatsink fins, like ecchi says just mount the push fan a little higher up for taller memory modules

I'm not sure about the RAM fitting. It even says on the Noctua site that it's not compatible. But some people in the NH-D14 thread here said it might fit if the push fan is moved up a little.

The NT-H1 thermal paste is supposed to be good. I'm not sure it'd be worth getting some other type of TIM unless it'll give you substantially better performance. Just go with the one that's given.

If you don't have enough space (fins hit RAM heatsink) then move the RAM sticks from the left to the right instead.
I don't use slot 0,2,4, I use 1,3,5 instead.

Im using the Asus Sabertooth x58 board and just ordered the Noctua NH-D14. Will I have room for my Kingston RAM cooler with the D14 installed?

And I use the Noctua NT-H1 compound, I love it works great, beat out the artic 5 on my stock intel cooler by almost 5C.
