Hi everyone!

Yet another newcomer here! I heard about this forum through another member (Maskedman), he goes to the same college as me. I've always been interested in computers and how they work. But only recently have I decided to build a pc. I'v been through some craptastic laptops like the HP pavilion dv4-1275mx.

I've been browsing Newegg and this forum for the past week, and may I say that I've learned SO MUCH in that short span of time. While I may not be the most knowledgeable, I can hold my own. I've run many Linux distros, done some pc tweaking and all that. I definitely know I prefer AMD and ATI over Intel and Nvidia. I consider Apple products (minus iphone and ipod) to be worthless and the people who swear by them are shallow and have sheep mentality (to quote a post I saw).

Hopefully I'll be around much more and learn much much more in the months to come.

Welcome.

The first thing I will quash is that your hate of intel is misplaced. They make really good CPU's currently and have more money in R&D than any other computer company on the planet. Also, ATI is no longer a brand because AMD bought them and converted the ATI brand into AMD.

Apple uses inferior hardware, they do however get one thing right - they screen all software thoroughly before you can download it. I do not agree with a lot of their decisions to deny software from the app store, but personally owning an android phone, I couldn't tell you if some of the software I download from the market place is safe OR will put spyware on my phone and steal my contact info while tracking my movements on GPS.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did not say I hated Intel--I merely prefer AMD, mostly due to their lower price point. I am not an overclocker or intense gamer so I don't put a premium on performance. I admit Intel does make extremely good products, and if I had the money to drop, I'd go for the sandy bridge i7's in a heartbeat. I knew that AMD acquired ATI, I just used the ATI name to differentiate from Nvidia.

I agree with you on the software perspective. Whatever programs/apps are developed for apple, they are typically very good. I would much rather have an iPhone over an android device even though both are good platforms. Really, my biggest complaint about apple is their ridiculously high prices for a device that would be outperformed by a cheaper rig I built myself.
