2 months after the first iPad went on sale Apple stated that they sold 33000 per day... So 10000 avail for launch is umm, not very smooth. Kind of a vicious cycle for Asus and their suppliers... because if they aren't selling many they don't have a lot of clout to put their needs above or equal to Apple.

Apple didn't have a 9.0 magnitude earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster to deal with, not exactly the same global situation.

Apple also was releasing a product that many said was going to be a flop. Before Apple the tablet market was flat to moribund. Yet they managed to ship a bunch out.

Its the same global situation as Apple is dealing with, correct? Asus is dealing with a 2nd mover disadvantage. Even tho they pay almost nothing in R & D software they still don't have the $ to make suppliers give them screens.

Apple created a knowledge and awareness of tablets so we know the market is there and If you ask smart people, Asus did what it had to do, beat Apples price point.

So if they know that they can only make in 90 days a fraction of what apple sells in a day... I don't understand why bother?

Yes, because clearly they knew that a 9.0 magnitude earthquake was going to hit Japan when they started the development of this product

They were expecting to ship 300,000 units a month. Japan's crippled infrastructure reduced that by a significant amount.

Go troll somewhere else

So I'm a troll, well as a troll, I guess I should point out that the earthquake didn't just happen...

Asus launched this and they didn't tell the retailers like target... we aren't actually going to ship you very many. Clearly you're not understanding how small of a number 10k is.

The choke point is probably touch ips displays not made in japan, yet asus suddenly is off by a factor of 30 from the japan quake?... Yet dell is still shipping stuff, motorola, apple, samsung.

The price point of the Transformer does not allow Asus to be spending big bucks on parts. If the manufacturers have limited supply, they're going to sell to the highest bidder. Motorola charges $200 more than Asus does for less hardware. They can easily afford to outbid Asus for parts.
