This is quickly turning into a build I'm going to want to watch.

You going to handle the build log on here so we can watch?

That board doesn't support Quad SLI GTX580... Single bracket or not... Am I really the first person to mention this? O.o

How long time does it take him to make it? The 1155 socket is really the low end socket. 2011 socket and Kepler come in 6 to 12 month, so it might very well be out of date when he has finished the construction. Buying a computer is very much a matter of timing I feel.
If he waited 9 month, it would be close to the top for 2 years I think. May be needing an upgrad to Haswell.

I wasn't thinking clearly. Don't tell Him that. If you don't He would buy a new one in 9-12 month's time and give the old one to you!

I am going to put a post up under build logs after we order everything. I am just compiling the final list now and I want to post it here first. We are going to order everything tonight and build it over the weekend.

CPU: 2600K $314.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115070

Mobo: UD7 $314.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128480

Case: We switched to the 800D because the 700 was out of stick. The 800 is cheaper anyway. $274.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811139001

PSU: 1200W Corsair $279.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139014

SSD: OCZ Revo Drive $1,399.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227663

HDD: Seagate Barracude 3TB $229.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148736

RAM: 16GB 2133 Gskill $369.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231452

GPU: 2x GTX590 $1,499.98 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130630

Card Reader: $39.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820162031

Blue Ray: LG burner $91.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136181

DVD-ROM: Asus $16.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135224

Monitors: 2x Dell U3011 $2,759.98 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824260028

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate $179.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116997

Total so far is $7,773.85.

A couple of items are out of stock on the egg, so I plan on hunting them down elsewhere. I also haven't checked for any combos yet and will do that before ordering. This will all get ordered in about 6 hours, so does anyone have another suggestion for a change? Whether we are missing something better, or we just are picking something that won't work well. I believe I have most things covered except for the WCing. If anyone wants to put a pick list together for that, we'd really appreciate it.

I am so glad that you said that. I really was a nervous wreck wondering if it would handle the internet. Now I feel much better...

Actually, it will see lots of CAD work, video editing and photoshop work on a daily basis. He is far more of a gamer than I am, so it will see its fair share of that too.

Anyone have anything constructive to add?

I would get rid of the corsair ax 1200 and get the antec HCP 1200. The antec unit is better. But don't get me wrong, both units are very solid.

Is he a member of OCN?
if not, I suggest giving him anything below a Pentium 3 with 128MB ram.

He isn't concerned with upgrades obviously. If and when the time comes, he will just get whatever he needs. He needs the rig now and doesn't want to wait. Its a toy to a degree, but he does use it for work on a daily basis. He's just going to write the whole thing off as a business expense anyway. I told him to just go to someone who is a pro and have them design/build it, but he wants me to do it and do it now.
