580 3gb Vs 2x 560 2gb... 5760x1080 - Page 5

It doubles your price going from 2x560 2gb ----> 2x 580 3gb

If it were between the 2, i'd definately take the 560's if you plan on overclocking the cards (unless of course you have some cash to burn as 2x580 3gb would be about 40% faster)

Have you considered AMD?
How much are 2x HD6950's in AUD? That would give you better performance than the 560's (On par/better than 570's when unlocked)

EDIT: it would help us out if you linked us to the store you plan on buying from

But now im wondering if it would be better to just get 1x Gainward 580 3gb instead...
I was considering them, but i would like the option of trying 3d gaming in the near future, and 6950's are woefull when it comes the 3d support, and it doesnt appear that that is going to change, as ATI hasn't adress it at all, ever since 3d gaming came out...

I also want the added benifit of Physx, which isnt available with the ATI cards for future titles, BF3 for instance...

But when i think about playing BF3 on NVSurround, i think more to the point that i might need the 580's!

Correct me if I am wrong, as I don't think anyone has pointed it out yet, but that GTX580 Phantom is a 3 slot cooler. On most boards, you'll be hard-pressed to squeeze them in for SLi. Like I mentioned though, there are 3GB variants from Zotac, Palit, and EVGA's are now in stock as well because I just checked.

They are about 2.5 or just under, but yes, i've research and they should fit in the case im after (HAF 912 Advanced) and on the MOBO im going with, either UD4 or UD5, my only concern is that the bottom card will be close to the PSU, and whether the fans blow away from, or suck air towards the GPU as opposed to the PSU sucking/blowing air from the top fan...

Two 560s are not going to be on high settings at that resolution, two 580s would be. It'd take 3 580s to be ultra-settings.

Compared to the amount of money invested, 2 560s will be more disappointing than 2 580s, since only one of those two will not feel outdated at you planned resolution.
What I'm saying is: In the event that you don't already know, I think you'd be surprised to discover how small a change in terms of maximum playable settings is actually facilitated by a +30% increase in average fps.

And let's not forget, we're talking about a +100% increase in terms of cost.

This article
provides a pretty good illustration of how well 460 2GB cards actually do at surround resolutions ... and of course the 560 2GB is a good 25% faster. Across this wide variety of tests, there were VERY few scenarios where the 2GB was tapped out in terms of vram usage, and it almost always required 8xAA and 6064x1200 resolutions (which I think is 5760x1200 w/bezel correction applied) to do so.

Waste. Get 2x 6950s and beat the crap out of everything.

Beyond me how you can even consider the 560 when you can get 6950. It will crush 560 with ease in a CF/SLI config.

I've seen OC 560's compete with 6970's and 580's...

Also, id be sacrificing 3DFX and PhysX for raw processing powa!
Not to mention the Gainward 560Ti is one Sexy looking card!
