when my beastly reference 4890 died, they sent me a bad batch 4890.

now i have 2 5830s (1 by MSI) WIN!
moral to the story: to get what you want, raging always helps.

Good looking card but I will never buy any XFX products. With all the crap I have read on OCN and the problems with their non-ref cards....

Is the 6870 a good buy nowadays with the 6950 on the market + unlocking potential.

XFX....yeah no thanks. I'll pass, and buy a card that is actually backed by a company that cares.

No... It's because of XFX's quality on other cards too. In conjunction with how they treated me, pioneerislod, blitz6804, and others. Even if their 1st release cards are of some quality because they're reference, they'll change the card. When you go to RMA it you get a non-comparable card yet they'll tell you to F off.

So, no... I'm not hating on XFX just because of their 4890 debacle. I don't care if this particular card is actually good(in fact I'm almost certain, it is, their BE cards are usually, but not always, of higher quality), the fact is when you go ot RMA it, or even get support you'll probably get shafted. Sure it's a lifetime warranty, but when you go to RMA it you might get a bottom of the barrel scrapings from thier last PoS revision 6870, or maybe a mid-tier card from the next gen that performs slightly worse, who knows w/ XFX.

Friends don't let friends buy XFX.

You do realize the 5830 performs slightly worse than a 4890, right? Not to mention the 5830 never had software-voltage tuning as your reference 4890 did.

I got a crappy 4890 back(not officially part of the bad batch, but know to be of MUCH lesser quality than the 4890 I had), I offered a compromise to a 5830 or a proper RMA and give me a 4890 which had the features my old one had. They told me to kindly f off, I told them I will do my best to make sure no one I know will buy XFX due to how they treat their customers. I'm not alone in this, ask Pioneerisloud or Blitz6804, or hell, any other of numerous OCN members who've been screwed over by XFX.

This is good and all, definitely looks sexy, what about the pure Eyefinity version of it! =D That's what I am waiting for, nothing put display ports and a full slot for exhaust cooling.

Wow, Although I'm fairly new to OCn, I've never heard any of these problems with XFX. All I've used is XFX over the last 10 years or so, with no problems what so ever. I've been thinking of going to an MSI card(6990 or 590) after all the good things I've heard about them lately, but XFX has always been tried and true .

After XFX went AMD/ATI, they went to crap. When they were still mainly an nVidia brand, they were a top-tier brand. My guess is something in inter-office politics during the switchover caused a change in policy regarding card designs, components used, and the level of quality their support staff had been held to. Could also be that AMD/ATI cards are generally more affordable, and XFX wanted a higher profit margin, so they dropped nVidia and cheaped out and cut corners wherever they could to maximize profit.

I personally wouldn't buy XFX for their:
Silent revisions where they change even high-end products
Cheap quality (loads of dead XFX Radeons -4k and 5k- are on ebay every other day)
Poor support
Crap prices (compared to other brands)

Well if it doesn't support voltage adjustment (and the reference one does) then it's not strictly a reference design.
