7800 gt tec

Thread Starter
i have one of those Swiftech MCW60-T TEC waterblocks my mate gave to me and i was going to use it on my 7800GT and overclock it. ive added a layer of clear nail varnish to the PCB behind the GPU for insulation. Im a bit of a n00b at this TEC business so help us out here. I was wondering if its possible to use a variable resistor on the 188W TEC, because 80% of the time i dont use my computer its just left SMP folding. that 20% of the time im gaming it hits 95 degrees. Im doing this as more of an experiment rather than getting ridiculous OC's

Clear nail varnish is just a water barrier. You actually need to insulate... use materials like foam to keep the cold in while keeping ambient air out.

No, you will not find a variable resistor that is feasible to control a 188w TEC. At half load, you would be wasting a lot of energy and the resistor would need to dissipate a lot of heat.

Besides, a 7800GT can't Fold.
Once again...

i know the 7800GT cant fold im just gonna keep it for gaming, if u look at the MCW60-T on the internet it comes with foam/neoprene insulation. Looks like im gonna scrap the resistor idea XD

You want a PSU with a variable voltage knob.
