Yet another "worse crossfire performance" thread.

Thread Starter
Alright guys. I've seen this issue around the webz and I really haven't seen an outright answer to the problem. Here's the rundown:

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5
Core i7 920 @3.36 GHz
2x Sapphire Radeon 5870 Vapor-X
Thermaltake 850W PSU
Windows 7 64-bit
10.4 drivers

So basically, if I play anything with crossfire enabled, I get lower frame rates than with crossfire disabled. Cases in point:

F1 2010 - With crossfire enabled, everything maxed, I can't get above 25-30 FPS (stutters/lag). With crossfire disabled, everything maxed, I get a pretty much constant 60 FPS (smooth).

Shift 2 Unleashed - Same story. Night races with crossfire enabled were horrible. As soon as i turned off crossfire, it ran like butter.

I've got both cards at stock speeds. I monitor the temps, and neither card gets above 72*C. I know there are newer drivers out there, but would they really make that much of a difference? I mean, I actually noticed the same thing with my 4890's and Borderlands. Is there something I'm missing here?

Welcome to crossfire

Proof that lian li is only a brand like any others.
It runs hot, 72 degree with 2 Vapor X is non sense.
Open the side of your case and see a big difference.

Always get the most current drivers for your GPU, they will help more than you think and they really help XFire be more compatible with more games.

Since some games do not support XFire or SLI very well it just simply will not work with these kind of games. When you are playing these just disable it and turn it back on when you are playing a game that has better compatibility with more than one GPU.

First you should really get the latest drivers for your cards because that can really make a difference.

your drivers are are year old, unless putting 10.4 was a typo.

Also, you have crossfire profiles installed?

even if that is a little hot for that cooler, that is not very hot for a GPU. My old 480 ran at 90C+ and it worked just fine. GPUs are much more heat resistant than CPUs and can run just fine at much higher temps.

Check your drivers, update them if you have to. Bad cfx almost always equals misbehaving drivers. How did you install the drivers? Also, are you patched up with F1 2010? That game has horrific support, codies is major fail.

Lol...the case is actually already open. That's under full gaming, and there is pretty much ZERO space between the cards:

With the door on they still hot? Can you space the cards out with that board and still get x16 slots?
