Issues with MSI 6950 GPU

Hello!

I've been having some issues with my new MSI 6950, specifically when I load up most games and sometimes (rarely) on the desktop. The issue involves windows saying the drivers have stop responding and have recovered, and will do it 3-4 times in games then let me continue. On the desktop, however, it will keep doing it until I restart my system. I cannot decide whether this is a driver issue or a GPU hardware issue.

Any suggestions?

I have tried the original drivers that came on the disk with the card, the 11.3 and the 11.4 ATI drivers, and the issue exists with all of them.

Thanks!

EDIT: I've read some posts that when you uninstall the ATI drivers via the ATI uninstaller, it could remove done CPU drivers if you have AMD. As I have a Phenom II 1090t Thuban x6, could I have uninstalled some of the CPU/MOBO drivers?

This actually happened to me (if I opened ccc it would guarentee a crash) - i was never 100% sure of the cause if i'm honest, but I replaced my ram (as it was bad and was corrupting vital system files) and reinstalled windows.

That was a month ago and I've never had a problem since, and my card has been shader flashed and overclocked and folding for that period.

Some other guys on here might be able to be more coherent than me about it though

edit: cpu drivers? a cpu itself does not have drivers. I think your best bet is to reinstall windows and see if it helps.

I just upgraded to this GPU, and included a fresh install of windows while upgrading. The card had the issues BEFORE AND AFTER the fresh install, with the dame drivers. The RAM worked fine with my old 5770. Do you think it might be the card?

I had this issue on my MSI card, and I had to RMA it.

I confirmed the issue on two different systems, and it would throw up the amdkmdap error over & over, and even got a lockup quite a few times.

It takes ~ 1 week + shipping back & forth, so total time is around 2 - 2 1/2 weeks.

Well, it causes Bad Company 2 to crash on the load screen, and League of Legends is sometimes unplayable due to driver crashes.

Would you say this is a card issue, then?

Can't say for sure, since my issues was, the system was unstable on the desktop. I didn't even try games, since I kept on getting the reset messages.

I would use a temp monitor, and see what it reports. I guess if it only does it in games, it could be heat related, or maybe even driver related.

It happens on the desktop sometimes too, but the heat only hits 60 in my most demanding games.

I'm still getting these issues, but after a friend said I should get a new PSU since mine was only 610W, I got a 1000W.

Now it seems my card just crashed, giving me vertical lines with different shades of tan with a horrible screeching noise. Think its a faulty card?
