Should get the Asus rampage III or stick with my P6x58D

Well im building my dream machine and i was originally going to start from scratch and start with the Asus rampage III and build up from there. Im getting the i7 990x and i want to do lots of overclocking but, should i just save myself the $379.99 and keep my P6x58D Premium sense it has support for the 990x, or get the Rampage III. I have done some research and seen how it has an easy bios flash and what not... Im am a bit tech savvy but i learned most my stuff on google like a noob and wanted to come here to get some advice from the pros.

this is my build list so far:

Asus rampage III (maybe)
Intel core i7 990x
XFX RADEON 6990
1000w PSU
12g of Corsair dominator at 1886Mhz
Corsair Obsidian 800D
with the cpu water cooled by a Swiftech Apogee XT rev. 2

This late in the 1366 game, stick with your current mobo.

That is still one great board you have there and it will OC that 990x like the Rampage III could.

I say get an open box Rampage III Extreme from Newegg. You can't beat it for the price. You won't regret the decision either. Just having ROG Connect made it worth it (for me anyways).

It's a bit late in the 1366 game to consider a new build around the 990x in my opinion.
Since your machine is still awesome, I suggest holding off until LGA 2011 comes out, and then build your dream machine.

You seem to have top end specs there, but the Asus P6X58D Premium will be good enough in my opinion... The Rampage 3 does have the ROG connect which is more like a show off IMO. Like stated above, you can still overclock the same way... just not on the fly...
With those specs though, you might want to consider looking into the Rampage III Black Edition... That way you get the steller sound, bluetooth 3.0, wireless N, top rated build quality, more than enough PCI-X slots, sick looking, gigabit, and the newer Marvel 9182 controller that won't bootle neck the latest SSD's (Vertex 3...). The X58 platform is still a beast and good luck with your build...

i probably should have said the reason im building this rig is for 3d rendering and animation stuff like that. thats why i want the six cores and 12 gig of ram. and i dont have time to wait for the ivy bridge and LGA 2011.

@eVGAX58 your wifes build is awesome and it made me want it more, i also love the clean white and black of your rid

Then look into the Rampage III Black Edition if anything.

IMO though, your current mobo is fine, and you could also save $400 by picking up a 970 instead.

You can easily OC it to 4.5.

And if you're doing a lot of rendering, aren't you better off with an Nvidia card for CUDA?

I say go for the R3E black edition I just built my rig 1 month ago I would've waited for the LGA 2011 but my computer died and it wasn't worth the fix. If you cant hold out till then then go for the R3E black edition
