I forgot about what Phaedrus2129 told us:

"No, the Core Edition has the better electronics.

The XXX is based on a modification of the S12 platform, and has some issues with low +12V loads. S12 was what was used in the Corsair TX650. The Core Edition uses the SS-***AT platform, which is also used in the Corsair TXv2 series."

So if it were me, then I would drop the "XXX" edition and get something else like the Black edition, or the 620W SeaSonic M12II.

Turn off C1E / Cool'n'Quiet in your BIOS. That will stop your CPU from downclocking at idle, and will therefore keep +12V load high enough that the XXX 650W won't have issues.

I don't know, but I'm assuming so. After all, AMD is recommending a 500W peak-rated power supply to handle a system with one 5850 in it, and you're going to have a 650W continuous-rated unit it. They're even recommending just a 600W peak-rated unit to handle a system with two 5850s in it, which is why I was still recommending those high quality 520-550W power supplies even though I did make that list of high quality 620-650W units.

thats not entirely true i have cool and quiet off as well as c1e and it still downclocks it downclocks the fsb even at stock so its not just my overclocks being screwy it only seems to do it at complete idle for longer than an hr or under any load greater than 40%. also not i wasnt trying to discredit you at all all im saying is that mine is still doing something screwy.

yes i thought i should clarify i saw the potential for something bad to come of my original post.

i fixed the issue i disabled svm c1e cool and quiet and ran it in a 90% low frequency o/s initialization. it downclocks once and then remains at my set overclock. also i canceled my order on newegg this morning and reordered the 650w xfx core edition. i cant wait to get it as soon as i do i will review my experiance with it as well as push for 4.1+ghz currently im only able to hit 4065mhz at max it acts like it wants to go higher but just isnt getting the juice it needs. we will see how it goes next week once it arrives once again thank you to Phaedrus2129 and TwoCables for all the help and i believe i reped you both if i missed either one of you let me know and you shall receive a rep.

Whether or not I got a rep is not important. All that matters is that you get what you came here for.
