Simca, you're getting the OP (Chucklez) mixed up with the other poster MClouse. Clouse is the one who made the statement about the Logitechs blowing the 555's out of the water, not Chucklez. Which I do agree is an invalid comment. Chucklez just thought it was a good choice because of the amount of people that recommended them.

Seems like a simple misunderstanding of who said what.
Interesting, you caught something I didn't. Didn't realize it was McLouse or whatever that said Logitechs blow HD555s out of the water.

He was the one I was originally replying to, then I read some crazy comment about the Beats and thought it was the same person. Not sure why.

Sorry OP.

Still, ignore Logitech, Psycho, and pretty much most headsets in general. They're all bad. HD555s or AD700s are a good choice.

I can tell you a soundcard with a good set of headphones or speaks is fantastic, my zalman mic picks up everything I say and its behind my 32" LED which I use as a monitor (thats a good 3-4 feet away). However it really depends what your doing and weather super (damn near) crystal clear audio is what your after.

Most audiophile grand headphones have better soundscape then any so called gaming headset (7.1, 5.1 headsets are a joke), you just have to peer them with a quality soundcard (which in most cases for headphones is a STX because of the built in amp and mod-ability).

Since you don't have a soundcard I'd say just stick with headsets, don't bother with tritton cause they are overpriced and uncomfortable, I get given them for free on a constant basis to test and give them away.

Astro A40 have nice sound quality for a headset and are comfortable to boot but make sure you get the version with the mixamp because it makes a world of difference.

I haven't tried them but my guildies love the Razer Megalodons, so they must be doing something right with them.

Although listen to the people in the thread telling you to just get a quality set of audiophile grade headphones, a soundcard and a stand-alone mic, if you like your sound quality that is the best way to go.

And don't worry about starting off with high quality goods, start at the base line quality and if you think you enjoy the quality it gives you can upgrade again later down the track.

Not everyone here is like me that will have $2000 headphones, however I did get them free from a mate that upgraded to DENON AH-D7000 so I got very lucky ^_^
Thanks for the very detailed and informative input.

Glad we go that figured out and I am sorry as well. Simple misunderstanding But yes you are right at one point I am very newb when it comes to audio

Well looks like I will go with the HD555's or the AD700's. Now is there one thats better then the other or are they about the same and its just a coin flip which one you should really buy?

AD700s have a larger sound stage and thus results in sounds and positioning to be wider and farther away.

HD555s the sounds will seem closer and it'll have slightly more bass than the AD700s, but the AD700s are brighter sounding while the HD555s are annoyingly neutral.

Up to you which you prefer. Don't think that the HD555s have any bass though really, cuz they don't.

I have both the HD555's and AD700's. I upgraded to the AD700's after a year or two with the HD555's due to everyone recommending them for gaming. While the HD555's sound great and are really comfortable, I only use my AD700's now after I upgraded my sound card. The AD700's are comfortable (but huge and ugly, I don't suggest wearing them in the streets lol) and sound great. Like Simca said, the sounds and positioning are wider and farther away than the HD555's but this is a good thing.

I wouldn't get anything Logitech due to horrible experiences with their products (had speakers, mice, and keyboards that all sucked or died on me). I had the Razer Carcharias and they actually sounded great and were the most comfortable headsets I've ever worn.. but since they're made by Razer, everyone will tell you not to get them lol. I exchanged them for the Titanium HD soundcard which is an important addition to great sound.

After you get a nice pair of headphones invest in a good quality sound card. And as for the Zalman mic, I have mine in a desk stored away because they don't seem to work anymore.. I plug them into my sound card but they're either not recognized by Win7 or just don't output my voice. Hmm, I should make a thread about it lol.

Which Psycho are you referring to? The carbon is a true 5.1 headset and is just under 200. Were you referring to the Krypto or the Carbon?
The ad700 is good but with no dolby amp you might aswell get the Razer Orca which sounds are close to the Ad 700 but it goes for around $50.

its still stereo with simulated 5.1 so the positional audio will depend how your dolby mixer mixes it. They still don't beat a true 5.1 headset in positional audio.

I've used both the AD700's and the HD555's and I do prefer the HD555's for music, but I got a pair of the Carcharias from the GF for Xmas. I don't have a clip on mic, and I find the quality of both the sound and the mic to be great, IMO, for gaming.
Take it for what it's worth.

I think you're overrating how good Dolby 5.1 is. You're definitely overrating how good a "true 5.1" headset is. @Spoony.
