bottm mounted psu - face up or down?

this comes down to which case i get

the antec 100 is much cheaper and looks good however no bottom vent for the psu so have to put it facing up which means intaking warm air from inside the case and exhausting them out which sounds good to me for the case, but would that be bad for the psu?

the haf 912 has bottom vent with air filter so can put psu facing bottom which intakes cool air from outside case, which sounds better for the psu?

i'm a completely noob so which way do you guys think is more beneficial?

I really suggest going with some practical results. Try mounting it faced both up and down, and monitor your temps. There really isn't a set way to mount a PSU, the best way to mount it is what's most beneficial to your temperatures.

just put it were the wires are closer to the motherboard plate... makes it easier for you to wire stuff up. since the 912 has the vent youll be fine.

sry this is a new build (first for me) so i don't have any parts yet... i can't be buying both cases and doing all these tests and stuff

i guess i'm more concerned with temperature whether facing the psu up will be bad for the psu since it's intaking warm air

Mounting psu on the bottom(fan down)will be no problem,as long as there is some space between the case bottom and the floor.I wouldn't put the case on thick carpet or something like that.If you go the other route just make sure that there is enough air flow to push the excess heat to the exhaust fans,so no I don't think it would be bad for the psu.

are you placing the system on a table? or on carpet, is the carpet thick... like reezin said if the carpet is thick then put the fan facing up, if the system has room to breathe youll be fine with any orientation.

I'm putting it on a table for sure.

my problem is, the antec 100 is cheaper but buying it means i can only put psu facing up --> is this bad for the psu in the long term due to intaking WARM air? if it's not a good thing then i'd rather spend more money and get the haf 912 to face it down

face up to extract warmer air out. Face down might improve PSU temps via intake but it may suck up a lot of dust.

remember cases previous to the bottom mount had the PSU in the top, so all hot air was exhuasted from the top of the case through the PSU, and there were not reports about it being bad for the PSU. Most PSUs have overkill for fans, as long as there is air flow, you are good.

I also mounted mine based on where the wires come out, so that I can do cable management easier.

but with the antec 100 if i put it face down (wires closer to back tray) there is probably so little airflow? since there's no vent at the bottom
