Heat from a non-gaming i7 laptop?

Will a laptop equipped with an i7 be able to run at 100% load on all cores for hours without getting ridiculously hot?

I'm not sure if I should only be looking at gaming notebooks with larger heatsinks and bigger fans.

Short answer: No
Long answer: No

Even gaming laptops with bigger heatsinks / fans will still get pretty toasty if you are 100% load on all cores for long periods of time.

my Sager laptop has better cooling...

GTX 470m idles at 40c and Crysis 2 makes it go up to 80c, tolerable and still pretty good for laptop cooling.

What does the fan sound like on the Sager? I've been considering the NP8170.

Is it super quiet when idle? I'm not too concerned with sound under load, but if I need it in class, I don't want it to be whirring like crazy.

haha...its like asking if an engine running at full power will be hot! But to answer your questions, no, it will get hot, and no, buying a gaming laptop won't change that fact

I'm more concerned with it getting hot to the point where the fan is getting super loud and the bottom is getting way too hot to be on your lap. The actual internal temperature doesn't bother me.

What about the Asus G-series?

had the Asus 6930G, and it got super hot when gaming...like, my lap was burning (but it was nice in the winter when my house was cold)...although don't know about the newer series

The cooling on the new G series looks insane:

That's not bad at all.

I just want a laptop that is very quiet when idle, and is able to keep an i7 cool under load. (note that I am not talking about gaming, just maxing the CPU).
